New York Random House 1957 First Edition Hard Cover Near Fine Very Good Plus George Salter (dj)
Green cloth, gilt-stamped lettering on gilt-bordered black panel on spine, author's initials within frame gilt-stamped on cover, dark blue top edge dye, light beige endpapers, [viii], 1168pp, plus author's autobiographical sketch. Pictorial dust jacket with front panel/spine original artwork by George Salter, photo of author on back above quotation & facsimile autograph. First edtion, first issue, with all Points of Issue. Bright cloth, quare, firm binding with sharp corners, clean text, very slight text block fall-in (The spine of the text block has slightly collapsed inward from the top -- typical of loosely shelved or large heavy volumes.) No shelf wear. Apparently little read. Dust jacket is wholly intact, very lightly age-toned overall with slightly faded lettering on the spine, there is a nearly imperceptible 1-3/4" closed tear from the back hinge top diagonally onto the spine panel, with very light creasing therefrom, edges have a bit of colorchipping & a few tiny chips with no more than 1/8" loss in a few places, i.e., flap folds & spine corners, protected in a new Gaylord brand archival clear plastic cover (removable). Overall, a very attractive copy in non-restored condition. Ms. Rand's pre-eminant work. As with friends Rose Wilder Lane and Isabel Paterson, she became known as a founder of the Libertarian movement and as a political theorist. She later developed her Objectivist philosophy which remains of interest to this day.
