Rev. J. L. Spalding, D.D., Bishop of Peoria, Imprimatur: John Cardinal McCloskey, Archbishop of New York. Backstrip is missing, head & foot bands still present, covers edges rubbed, corners rubbed thru to boards, binding still reasonably tight. Name penciled to front pastedown, title page is next with no free end paper between, the last page is the back paste down with no free end paper. Pages are reasonably tight, crisp, lightly tanned, edges heavily faded. Text has a profusion of steel engravings, many are reproductions of the works of famous Master Artists.
