Red cloth, gilt-stamped lettering on spine, 222pp. First U.K. Edition. Yellow dust jacket with red & black lettering including the uniquely British "original and unputdownable" phrase, protected in a new archival Gaylord-brand clear plastic cover (removable). No external library markings. Spine cocked, ends bumped, boards slightly bowed, tiny bump to two corners but tips still sharp & square, edges moderately faded, binding is wholly intact with no internal breaks although signatures/gatherings are evident on fore edge of text block, text is quite bright & clean with a few small smudges in the margins, no markings, dogears, etc., usual internal library markings. No library markings on dust jacket. Has a tiny chip at the top of each hinge, somewhat prominent creases/stresslines at the hinges and fore edge folds, has a small light dampstain on the backside at the spine bottom area which is undetectable on the front; quite bright and clean. Quote from the author's website (Old Algonquin Books): "Deadline, Gollancz, London, 1982. First hardback edition: yellow dust jacket; one small printing only, probably far fewer than 1,000 copies. A very scarce book today." Perhaps best known for his later Cliff Janeway mysteries beginning with Booked to Die (winner of the Nero Wolfe Award), DEADLINE is Mr. Dunning's fourth novel. DEADLINE was originally published in the U.S. in 1981 as a paperback original by Fawcett. The first American hardback edition, about 1300 copies, was published by Cahill, Huntington Beach, in 1995.

Dust jacket with original front panel artwork of night time scene. Slight spine fall-in (spine has slightly collapsed inward from the top), ends lightly bumped, text crisp & clean. Dust jacket has a bit of very light rubbing, spine ends lightly bumped. Who better to write a novel plotted around World War II radio than the man who wrote the ultimate encyclopedia on old-time radio?
