Everett, James The Wall's End Miner; or a Brief Memoir of the Life of William Crister: Including an Account of the Catastrophe of June 18th, 1835 New York T. Mason and G. Lane 1838 First Edition Full-Leather Good Brown calf, spine divided into five panels with gilt-stamped double rules, the title gilt-stamped in red-dyed second panel, 179pp including "List of Sufferers and Survivors" on last three pages. The book is wholly original and intact, quite serviceable but has seen much use; is shelf-cocked, spine ends rubbed with foot band lacking, corners bumped and rubbed to boards, front outer hinge & back inner hinge partially broken but both covers are quite firmly attached, text edges faded, pages have light scattered foxing throughout but are quite pliable. An important work by the very prolific Rev. Everett -- his eulogy to an illiterate but popular miner who was a leader in his church and community; as well as an early history of the Methodist sect, noting that founder John Wesley had visited the Wall's End coal mining area during his many travels.
