Pale green linen cloth, red lettering on spine, 1872 map of cowtown country in red on front endpapers -- to be compared with the 1886 map of same area on back endpapers, viii, 685pp, appendix, index, illustrated with numerous portraits, sketches and photo sections throughout. SIGNED BY BOTH AUTHORS and INSCRIBED to [Robert] Numa James, "With best wishes to our good friend and former Kansan --" (Numa James is a noted Kansas historian and author of four Self-Help/Inspirational works.) "The stories of 57 greater and lesser frontier peace officers and gun fighters paraded right out of the dust of Front, Main and Texas streets of Kansas cowtowns. Know these personalities as their contemporaries did, before literary varnish and press-agentry remade them." Square, tight binding, very slight spine fall-in (spine has slightly collapsed inward from the top -- typical of large heavy volumes), corners very lightly bumped, text crisp & clean. Dust jacket price-clipped, small chip & tiny closed tear on front top edge, small closed tear on back top edge, bright, clean, protected in a new Gaylord-brand archival clear plastic cover (removable).
