Chicago [and] New York S. A. Maxwell & Co. 1888 Later Edition Hard Cover Fair No Jacket
"A Romance by Sir Walter Scott, Bart. From The Last Revised Edition, containing The Author's Notes, Final Corrections, &c." Introduction to Ivanhoe as written at Abbotsford, 1st September, 1830. Dedicatory Epistle to The Rev. Dr. Dryasdust F.A.S. by Lawrence Templeton (one of Scott's pen names), Toffinwold, near Egremont, Cumberland, Nov. 17 1817. Burgundy cloth with floral decoration on front surrounding circular stylized S-A-M-&-Co emblem, decoration continues on spine above & below title plate, decorated endpapers, steel engraving on frontise titled "Death of Sir Brian De Bois Guilbert" signed with V.L.K. monogram, 443pp. Spine slightly cocked, ends bumped & rubbed, head/foot bands a bit tattered, title plate illegible, corners bumped & rubbed--tips to boards, cloth faded, back cover lightly dampspotted, hinges broken thru endpapers but attached, sharp pen scribbles on title page obliterating title w/open tears (verso is blank), more pen scribbles on first Introduction page with small tears -- balance of text is clean, light dampstains on most of text at top corner, edges faded w/dampstains.
