Pictorial mint green linen with portrait of Col. Henry Esmond on front & Lady Beatrix on back, black cloth backstrip, gilt lettering on spine within gilt bordering, green top edge dye, xxii, 441pp, with 32 line & wash illustrations in color; in green slipcase; sand Sandglass booklet. Introduction by Laura Benet. Book is square, bright, clean, sharp corners, has slight text block fall-in (spine has slightly collapsed inward from the top). Slip case is slightly faded around opening, has a few tiny spots on one side. These special reprint editions of literary classics, designed and prepared by some of the foremost artisans in the field with special cloths, papers, new illustrations, usually in slip case, and often with introductory comments by literary experts, were sold by subscription only and are sometimes referred to as "book club" editions.
